1991 EZGO pinion steering gear help

Hello all, fairly new to this board and carts in general. I just bought a 1991 EZGO (honestly, it is pretty much a P*S, but it fits my goals as I will completely go through it end-to-end) and in the process of checking out the slop in the steering, I see several problems. Most are minor, but the steering pinion gear (at the end of the steering shaft) has excessive wear on it. Surprisingly, the matching gear on the reduction gear shows no abnormal wear. I found the part in the exploded diagram, (item #20), but it does not have a separate part number, but rather, it is sold as part of the complete steering shaft $$$. I have done many searches but the only thing I can find is on the later models.

So my question is twofold:

First, does anyone know of any source for this gear or what others have done to solve this problem?

Second, can anyone recommend one of our sponsors on this forum for replacement EZGO parts? Thanks in advance for any info. John

This may help, if you have a frame mounted steering housing:

The rack seems to wear a lot more in the middle than on the outer ends, since that's what gets the most use.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, after a little more than 20 years with the same basic steering setup, EZGO changed the steering in ’94 or ’95, so that is not my setup. I have checked the rack along with the other gears and the steering pinion is the only gear that shows any sign of excessive wear. Thanks for the reply though. John
