Default 98 gas club car surges and backfires

Hello all

I have a 98 gas club car that while driving it will randomly drop speed quickly then pick back up normal. It doesn’t do it all the time and will go through spells where it is worse. Sometimes as it surging it does backfire but not every time.

Thoughts and thank you!

How fast are you going when it happens? Sounds like you've got the governor spring zip tied too tight and its hitting the rev limiter

I have the throttle all the way down. I will try half speed tomorrow and see if it happens. I did first notice it going downhill but seems to do it regardless of grade.

Today I drove the cart at full throttle until it started to surge again. Then just let off the throttle just slightly and it seemed to run just fine. I also put it in maintenance mode and applied full throttle. During this time time the throttle on the engine was pulsing.

Thanks for the help

Do you have a zip tie on the governor spring? If so loosen it just a bit and you should be fine

No zip tie on governor. I couldn’t figure out how to upload videos to the forum. Below is a link to a google drive with two videos. One with throttle all the way down and the other (after i got it stable) at 90% or so throttle.

Thanks
