How exactly do you ck a governor. Also I have noticed before I rebuilt it, when it would run for 10 minutes and get hot, it really died out.

I just can't figure this thing out. Motor is fresh, but the cart just boggs until it builds up enough speed, then it takes off.

Also the motor gets really hot. You can barely touch the plug wires after it runs for a lil bit.

What is the compression on this engine. Make sure you open the throttle wide open when testing. Post back the results.

This sounds like the driven clutch (the one on the transaxle) isn't working properly...Upshifting too soon. As you build load while driving, (ie: pulling something heavy, driving up a hill) the clutch should down shift. Take the belt off, and try to turn the outer shiv by hand, it should close the gap as it rotates. If it rotates easily by hand, likely a bad spring. Have you replaced the belt? Might be just an old belt.

88# is what I got at wide open throttle. I also replaced belt, but the belt is about 1/2 from the top on the primary clutch.

Not near enough, like 80 psi low. Did you go by the manual when rebuilding ? like checking bore and ring gap ? camshaft ? rockers ?

Have you rebuilt one of these engines before ?

Are you 100 % sure you didn't break a ring when installing pistons ?

Are you 100 % sure you got it timed correct ? it is easy to do if not paying attention because there is a dot on the bottom gear that could cause a person to put it out of time unless they read the manual. Key way goes up. Not sure why EZGO put a dot on these things but they did.

A freshly rebuilt engine should have around 150 psi and the more you run it and rings seat it will get better, like 170.

I think you are going to have to pull it back out and see what happened.

Yes, it is coming back out. Had someone rebuild it for me. I can see now not to use them again.

Let us know what you find.

Sorry you are having to do this over.

I never like to tell people to go back into an engine but your numbers on compression if your valves are set correct are way off.

Good luck.
