Well Guys and Gals - Here is where we ended up. EZGO sent two specialists to look at the cart and try to diagnose problem. They could find nothing specific - ended up saying let's replace some batteries to which we said "thanks but no thanks - we have been down that road before". With the help and support of an outstanding dealership - Silver State Golf in Henderson NV. we were finally able to get EZGO to take cart back on "trade in" and we bought a 2010 identical to our 2008 and excluding upgrades paid $1500 for new cart. The corporate guys were not happy and we ultimately had to threaten legal action but we got satisfactory outcome.

Thank you all for your input - happy carting out there!

OK.

EZ Go (not the dealer) has replaced batteries twice this year. 72 the first time when that was all the bad ones they diagnosed.

After that an E Z Go rep (again not the dealer) came by and found bad batteries in 38 of the 38 carts he checked.

Another tech came and replaced 46 batteries and did other repairs.

Still 12-volt Trojans. Well, I guess I better look again to make sure.

3 or 4 carts are still dying after 18 and 3 carts have charger errors whenever I arrive at the cart barn.

One solenoid has been replaced.

I believe our autofillers are not reliable. Originally they had longer indicator stems and gave false good readings. I discovered that when I pulled them off and found completey dry cells.

Eventually, the long stems were replaced with short stems, so now they give low readings. They indicators are depresssed when there is still plenty of juise in the cell. The E Z Go rep is not the one who had the stems replaced so he does not know they have short stems, but he told our Pro you cannot overfill using autofillers. But we are.

I already said other stuff, that one autofill set was put on backwards after battery replacements, so caps did not seat, a wheel was put on backwards, and batteries are not being replaced as full sets, so that some of the carts that are failing have a combination of old and new batteries.

No one currently coming to work on them has work on them the first two years and apparently does not have their history.

I've been told just to get through this year and we'll get a new fleet, but I don't know if that's true or someone's yanking my chain.

We also have new cart barn employees who do not know any of the cart's history, but who seem to know everything about everything and just ignore anything mentioned in the manual or that I try to share with them.

Our favorite saying is it is what it is.

A cart was acting up and when I lifted the seat I noticed a battery terminal had melted. I jiggled the wire and it was loose there and arcing bigtime.

It arcs when you turn the key on. Since explosive gases are released during charging, which would collect under the seat, we are fortunate not to have had a serious explosion.

That is one of the reasons I tell all my customers to spend a little extra time when doing their monthly battery ritual and tighten the nuts on the batteries.

Glad noone got hurt and no major damage occured

Thanks.

Two months ago we started an every two weeks maintenance routine and Battery Terminals is an item on the checklist. But, no one is specifically assigned to maintenance and some of the guys just skip that one.

I know it's not good;I'm not the one that makes the call . . . but whoever washes a cart on maintenance day does the checklist. It is no better than the person doing it. Some don't know what the terminal brush, baking soda and terminal protectant are for and some check the 22 psi on the tires by kicking them.

In between maintenance periods each person washing a cart is supposed to check the batteries, and I've yet to figure how they are doing that without lifting the seat.

We have one cart not making 18 and 3 not making 36. Some have new batteries, but not all four batteries.

Oops, the ghost of auto-brake failure past revisited yesterday. Had to bring one in off the course . . . had to hold the all-too-conveniently-located brake release lever for about a half-mile.

I didn't have time to check it today . . . a big celebrity tournament.

We've been a lot busier and carts are dying every day, some on the first round and some on the second.

E Z Go was here today and looked at 17 carts that have been dying. Numerous batteries will be replaced under warranty and two not under warranty. Those two are over the amp-hour limit for warranty, so that's a good reason to rotate fleet use.

They also replaced an auto-brake solenoid. All of the original early 2008's had solenoids replaced and this is a failure of a replacement. A new twist is that they do not want auto-brake failure carts moved by depressing the manual brake release lever (then why's it there?). They are to be towed, with a tether cord attached to the towing cart that allows the auto-brake to work.
