batteries melted WHY?
I bought six 6 volt used trojans from a wherehouse. I hooked them up and within 20 minutes the connections on the battery had melted and two of the battery cables came off. I smelled alot of sulfur and the batteries were leaking water from the top. please tell me what i did wrong. i wired it correctly and everything.

Re: batteries melted WHY?
Buying used batteries may be the problem if all wiring is correct.

Re: batteries melted WHY?
But sounds like you did NOT rewire correctly. Batteries have alot of amps going through them. Recheck your wiring and make sure all connections tight.

Re: batteries melted WHY?
If you wired them right the cables got loose. (yes ,it happens) I do it all the time. You "can" drill and tap...and use a stud to repair the connection. The ones leaking, there is no repair.

Re: batteries melted WHY?
I checked the diagram and i had all the wires in the right spot and tight. they were 05 trojan t105. I think i was using brand new 6 gadge. about two weeks ago i hooked up 3 car batteries to it and it worked fine. and i used my buddies us interstate golf cart batteries and it ran fine. but once i put these ones in one almost exploded it started to bulge out. I just bought a new 2 terminal key switch and a new selinod.

Re: batteries melted WHY?
If the batteries started buldging when you put them in you either have the cart mis-wired or a seriously screwed up set of batteries.

Re: batteries melted WHY?
6 gauge, 4 gauge...heck even 8 gauge would "work" as long as you have it wired correctly. Anything smaller will burn up...but if it's wired right it will work for a few seconds. I have used 14 in a pinch to get me home.(several wraps)
