Yamaha G16 starter wiring

I am looking for the correct wiring position of the cables on a 1997 Yamaha G16 cart. I took the starter off to replace the brushes and I thought I hooked the wires up the same but now the starter appears to be spinning backwards. Should the pulley spin clockwise or counter clockwise when you are looking at it from the drivers side?
