ezgo problem go in reverse, dies in forward, battery bubbling

Hi, new here hope to get help troubleshooting my cart.
We just got a old ezgo 3 wheel cart, sorry dont know year but its old, has tag but is painted over. Numbers stamped are 112, then below 144963. It was running fine, then we hooked charger to it and today my son was riding it and came in and said it wont go. I went out to see and heard one of the cells in one battery bubbling. I turned the key on and off and tried to move it no luck.
I switched F/R switch and it would go in reverse ok but only creeped slowly and shortly in forward. So I turned key off and it still would move slightly when switching F/R, I disconnected the bubbling battery for fear of it exploding.

Any ideas on where to start looking for a problem?? Thanks for any help in the matter, I am clueless as to where to start looking.

Welcome to BGW!

Sounds like bad batteries.
Use a digital meter and do a voltage check of all the batteries and post your results.
Here's a chart to help you determine state of charge.

Sounds like one battery has an internal short. Probably loads two-volts lower than it should as well. I'd not test it like this, a dead-shorted cell can have, well, rather 'explosive' results!
