vanguard lack of getty up and go
OK people, I just got my 16 hp vanguard ezgo running. Lots of fun, but, way to much throttle lag. The govenor is still hooked up {2 young kids}. When it gets up to speed it is fine it just takes forever to get there. It climbs any hill I put in front of it. I'm thinking a heavier clutch spring would take the load of the govener till the motor gets closer to it's sweet spot. Also the belt has plenty of free play but the cart wants to lunge forward when you start up. Better have the brake on. One other thing, the cart wont shift from forward to reverse without shutting down the engine. Please I'm lost

Re: vanguard lack of getty up and go
I would make sure the carb is opening and closing all the way with the pedal. Your idle may be set too high for the start up and shifting issue. My 18 idles at 1000 rpm +/- and starts and shifts great.

Do you use the stock drive clutch spring, and what about your govener?

Re: vanguard lack of getty up and go
i never had any luck with the stock spring, the stiffer drive clutch spring will solve your shifting problem. it also will also lighten up the jerky starts! the spring on the governor needs to be stiffer also. when set right it will come right up to speed.
mine will start and idle with no brake, and the rpm's raise a bit before engagement. |

Re: vanguard lack of getty up and go
Sounds like a plan to me. I'm going to give that a try. I might have to also adjust my throttle cable mount. When i have full throttle it idles just a little to fast and when i change it to idle slower I don't quite have full throttle.
