Default Has anyone installed the "The Beast", how did it work?

I am considering buying a high torque motor (lots of hills here) and I am looking at the beast.

Thanks

It's an excellent motor with loads of torque, however, I will caution this..... Make sure you have a controller capable of meeting that motors demands. You are really going to need a controller outputting a minimum of 500 AMPS. When I do builds that involve that motor I tend to go with a 700 AMP controller and just because I like continuity, I typically mate the GE motor up to a GE controller.

I have a 2005 Txt Ezgo with the beast motor, 400 amp curtis controller, HD F&R, HD Solenoid and 4 gauge wire. It is a 36volt cart as well and will pull a tree stump out of the ground. Do not expect to get over 15 mph with this 1600 rpm motor. I get about 8 hp at 36 volts and should be able to get 11 hp when I go to 48 volts. I love my motor and have had it 2 years now.

Thanks for the response, I think i made up my mind to get one.

I have a similar set-up, 2001 EZGO series with a 400 amp curtis controller, HD FR and soleniod but I changed all my cables to 2 guage because I could feel a bit of heat on them after a long hard pull up a hill.

Thanks
Brian

Brian,

I too have a Beast motor. It runs with a 700amp alltrax controller, 48v hd solenoid, 4 gauge wires, and upgraded buss bars on the stock fw/rv. I am using eight 6v Crown 225's. I added two in the bag well bringing my total to eight 6volt batteries. On 18 inch tires I maxed out on flat ground at 17-18 mph on batteries with less than 10 charges. I run on very hilly terrain on washed out rocky trails. I couldn't be happier with this set up. My concern is the heat the fw/rv switch radiates after a 100yard pull up hill. I will be exploring 2 gauge wires, another fw/rv switch and any other changes to help. The motor pulls as everyone says. You will be pleased.

Get rid of the F&R and convert to a pair of HD 6 pole solenoids..... your heat issues will disappear.

I believe most places judge shipping weight at 60 pounds.
