Starter generator question
My starter generator just went out and I ordered a new one. My question is how do I know if i just had a bad starter generator or if the voltage regulator is bad? I was trying to get the starter to turn over and at one point it started smoking at the terminal where the positve connects. I dont want to kill another generator if there is someother problem. Thanks For your help.

Re: Starter generator question
If the voltage regulator was bad you would have been able to start the cart by recharging the battery or boosting it. Its never good when electrical stuff smokes so my guess is you had/have an internal short in the starter generator. The short causes the amperage to increase which in turn adds heat to the conductor and what you saw smoking was probably the insulation on the terminal stud burning.
