Default Server HACKED!!

At about 12:00 pm Saturday May 12th our host's database server was attacked/hacked into. The resulting damage was ALL DATABASES and ALL Database backups were deleted. We were not the only site affected by this attack. There are a total of 13 hosting accounts on our semi-dedicated server. I sent all of our IP logs to our host so they could be examine by the authorities.

We lost about a month and a half of post and member sign ups. We will recover. If you know someone who is a member but isn't listed in the memberlist; Please ask them to re-sign up if they wish to.

Thanks.
Johnny

Thanks...I wish we would have had a newer database backup. The host does backups of everything so us doing our own weekly/backups was not a priority. Whoever it was deleted the database and the database backups. Whats strange is they didn't delete any other files.

I recommend SiteGround for webhosting.

Oh yeah the server was probably hacked by a script kiddie. Too easy these days to write a Perl script that can take out whole forums and backups of PHPBB systems if a hole is left open. Hope the little booger is caught, although it's not likely the authorities will turn up anything useful even if they decide to go after the criminal. The FBI won't even bother with them until the damage done is over $5000 or something like that.

It wasn't a script kiddie. It was an ex client of our host. We just got caught in the middle of it. The damages I'm sure were in the thousands also. I had 2 databases, 1 for the forum and 1 for our banner ad software. Considering there were 13 accounts on the server those database numbers grow exponentially. A script kiddie could not have taken out a hardened Platinum Server Management's server.
