1990 DS 36 to 48 volt.
Considering picking up an electric cart, it's a 1990 ds, the batteries are shot and need replacing either way. I was told with this cart I could change the 36v solenoid to a 48v solenoid and just swap the 6 -6 volt batteries for 6-8 volt batteries and it would be fine to use with the 36 volt motor? Is this true an or any other things besides the charger, batteries and solenoid that would need to be swapped out?

Re: 1990 DS 36 to 48 volt.
There is truth and myth in that.
True you can run a 36v motor on 48v and it will produce 33% more speed and torque. Myth about swapping out a solenoid and being good to go. First of all the cart has to have modern solid state speed control to handle the upgrade. and I'm not sure they made too many solid state 36v CC DS although they did continue to make resistor coil 36v CC DS until 2003. I hope this helps |

Can you elaborate more on the controller? I'm not real familiar with the electric carts... I didn't think this old of a cart has a controller. I think it's just 5 solenoids then 3-4 resistor coils...

If memory serves, 1990 is about 3 years before controllers (barring a possible 92 prototype).

No controller on that car.
Ive done that conversion long ago. Yes you can just change the 5 solenoids, new charger and 8 volt batteries. Its a nice conversion. Old school at this point but if that's what ya got, it will work. |
