Default TXT DCS reversing switch

Is it possible to change a TXT DCS cart with one of the reverse shifters next to your leg to a simple rocker switch?

Thx

Does the original F-N-R assembly get removed, and the PDS FWD/REV switch ties into those wires? Or just remove the handle and keep the rest of the assembly installed?

Does anyone have pics of this mod?

@skipsmith521

The diagram Scotty posted uses a SPDT/Center-OFF like the F/R Rocker switch used in a PDS and requires a diode.

You can also use a DPDT/Center-OFF like the CC F/R switch they use on their sepex drives and not use a diode.

Can you hook up an electric switch on a 2005 without a Run Tow switch?

Yes Harry. Check out Scottyb's website for details. I have the SW202 and love it.

That would be a qualified yes.

To get the motor to turn in the opposite direction and reverse the cart's direction of travel, EZGO sends the amps going through the Field or Stator windings in the opposite direction. In a series drive (no Run/Tow switch), the Stator is connected in series with the Armature (hence the name) and can be hundreds of amps, so a robust switching contacts are needed. In a SepEx drive (with Run/Tow switch) the Field is excited separately and is only about 1/10 the amps flowing through the Armature and is done electronically inside the controller.

The mechanical F/R switch used in a Series drive can be replaced with electromagnetically operated switches (Contactor or Relay, but electromagnetic switches with low amp contacts are typically called relays while ones with high amp contacts are called contactors) and in turn, the electromagnetic switch coils can be operated with a low power SPDT/Center -OFF toggle or rocker switch.

A switch and some wires and a diode I can afford but at 77 yrs and on social security the kit is a lot more than I can afford, so I will create a handle on the shift lever to make it easier to shift with my arthritic hands.
Thanks for all the information;
This is a great site;

HarryT, for easier shifting due to arthritis and to go easier on your pocketbook, check out a caddy shifter.
