Rear Axle Rubbing Noise 91 Marathon
Hello all, I have a 1991 Marathon electric and I am hearing a rubbing noise in the right rear tire area. It makes a consistent noise (for about a quarter revolution) but not a constant rub. I have removed everything down to the C Clip and don't see any obvious issues.
While I have it torn down I was going to replace replace any parts that may be worn. Is there a bearing behind the C Clip or is that just a washer? If so, is it just a standard wheel bearing? The reason I ask is because I dont have a C Clip remover or any extra C Clips in case I mess it up, so before I drive to get a tool just thought I would check to see if its worth it. Also, I have an extra wheel/tire that I am going to install to rule that out as an issue.... Many thanks for any thoughts. Last edited by Rainman4820; 05-28-2017 at 12:18 PM.. Reason: added text |

Re: Rear Axle Rubbing Noise 91 Marathon
Hey DubK, thank you, not exactly the same but close enough. My noise is not quite as pronounced.
I am not sure if mine, like yours, stops the noise while coasting but I will check and report back. I will check your posts to see how it was resolved. Also, to everyone else reading this, I found the manual so now I have clear idea how to remove the axle if needed. |

No problem. Yeah I've been told to make sure there is nothing loose (lug nuts, castle nut), to lube it up real good with some antiseize, and tighten everything back VERY tight. When I get this done I will report back my results hopefully tonight or tomorrow morning.

Re: Rear Axle Rubbing Noise 91 Marathon
Well, I did all of this and sprayed it down good with brake cleaner and no more noise. Strange

Tightened up my hub nut and lubed everything up real good. The hub nut was only HAND tight. Makes you wonder how some of these repair techs even got their certifications. But that took care of my problem too. No more squeak!
