Drive clutches - Gas Club Car DS
I recently installed a 6" long travel lift with 14" wheels and 23" tires. First time out this weekend since modding it. Runs great however on steep inclines or with a lot of passengers it seems to bog and you can hear what sounds like the clutch spinning out ( feels like it's waiting for the clutch to build pressure and then it goes.). Could this be solved by sending the driven clutch to be machined?
Any other improvements I should look into? Thanks Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: Drive clutches - Gas Club Car DS
The driven clutch machining + the power spring upgrade improved my cart's hill climbing after my 6" lift and 22.5" tires. The improvement wasn't drastic, but I was able to climb hills that I couldn't before the clutch work was done. I don't have a backseat on my cart so I never tested any steep hills with more that 2 adults on the cart.

Cool. I thought so but wanted to check. I'm by looking for rip roaring top end power since its mostly driven in a campground where we have a permanent campsite and they have a strict speed limit however they do have some nice trails that I'd like to take it into so I'm looking for that low end power.
Thanks for the input. Did Cart Parts Plus do your machining work? |

Yep. I sent my driven clutch to CPP. They did the machining and the spring.

Re: Drive clutches - Gas Club Car DS
There should be nothing to it. I believe it comes off just like the older ones do (bolted onto a keyway shaft). Simply remove the center bolt and slide it off...it's supposed to slide right off.
Pray that the clutch hasn't seized to the input shaft, like mine did on my '87. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...nightmare.html http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...-come-off.html |

Re: Drive clutches - Gas Club Car DS
Driven clutch should slide off as long as the shaft isn't rusty.
The drive clutch will need a puller in order to remove (can be made if you search around). The weights in the clutch wear and the slides can stick which will cause problems. Makes a big difference to rebuild the drive clutch. If the sheaves are worn significantly you should replace the drive clutch altogether. |

Thanks guys. I spoke with CPP about getting the driven clutch machined and the HD spring put in so I'll be pulling that tonight.
Should I just go ahead and replace the drive clutch while I'm at it or wait? |
