Default Engine rebuit, now it will only idle

Rebuilt my g14 engine. New rings, berings and a good cleaning. I put it back together lining up the timing marks, the one on the crank and the one on the cam, and also the balancer. I got it back in the cart and now it will only run at an idle. You step on the throttle, and it skips and pops through the carb. I also noticed that the starter/gen solinoid stuck once and the starter kept running. Hit the solinoid and it stopped. So did I mess up on the timing or is it something to do with that solinoid?? Or am I adjusting the valves wrong?

I notice that the spacer between the carb and the engine has a slight crack in it. would that make it not run??

Yep, that could be one reason it would run bad...Don't know about the timing.

The crack i the carb spacer could very well be causing your issue, Yamaha's are sensitive to air leaks. Might want to fix that first and see if your problems don't go away.

Is there anything that could be wrong with my carburator? While I'm stuck waiting for the spacer, I might as well make sure my carb is ok.

Air leaks in the airbox or intake will tend to make them miss and pop when you gas it, they will also foul the plug out doing that. Kinda strange for a 4 stroke to do that but it does, worked on a honda quad that also does this if the mixture is not right.

Just make sure the carb is clean, pull the bowl off and spray carb clean up the jets, spray the air jets on the intake side, clean the bowl, see what happens. About all that goes wrong with carbs is the throttle shaft wears out and rattles, then it leaks air in.

So sick of waiting for parts. Ordered all the engine parts...got the wrong rings...finally got the right ones, and now I have to wait for a new intake/carb spacer. Just hope it makes it run or I will be waiting again...
