brake adjustment question....
guys need the quick and the easy way to adjust the brakes before i burn up 4 sets of shoes!
brakes sucked balls, so i pulled apart and cleaned and buffed/roughed and stuffed back together. i didnt touch the cables or the rods! what the trade secret to adjusting? at my work we adjust the slacks on the trucks by this method, turn the adjuster till it touches, then back off 1/2 turn. done! can i do the same? i saw some videos online and they said turn till they hold, then back off a coulpe of clicks......my vw bug was turn till you turn it no more, back off 3 clicks, hit with the bfh and walah! brakes! thanks guys....i know i will get some sarcastic remarks! (i actullay expect this from you guys) |

Re: brake adjustment question....
It's a 99 Turf II (saw it in a recent post)
ckiguy... good to see ya' bud! I'm not sure about hydraulic brakes, but, mechanicals will have self-adjusting brakes, loosen the star adjuster 4 or 5 clicks, then ride in reverse, hitting the brake pedal hard a few times, pull forward, and repeat... your brakes shoes should then be adjusted! |

Re: brake adjustment question....
Don.... you missed a key part....XRT! it doesnt have the hydro brakes...it has the adjusters on the back of the plate, not the star adjuster on the bottom, but the adjuter stud type through the plate that wedges the shoes up top.
yes i know its been a while, kinda miss you guys! been busy as hell recently with new job, and havent had much of a chance to play with the cart. finally got time to replace the parking brake arm and paw, and burn out old grease in the spindles so the front end will take grease. if time goes right i might pull the cowling off and give her a fresh coat of paint or get it wrapped! |

Re: brake adjustment question....
What's throwing me off is... if it's a 99 XRT, and it has the manual adjustment on the top of the backing plate?
(most 97+ CC's have self adjusting brakes, at least... that I'm aware of) You should be able to back it off a click or 2, then adjust your pedal travel to make up for it? Yes/no? |

Re: brake adjustment question....
thats what i wanted to hear. yes it has the adjuster on top on the back of the plate. brake pedal is fine. , i just go tired of the crappy brakes and needed to adjust them, they were way the phuck out, i know the fronts i tuttnd prob 2 complete 360s before even touching the drum. i need to do the rears.
also same time i replaced the parking brake paw kit, know i have to get it adjusted correctly! 1 thing i will recomend is place a mark or a picture of the pa on the acc pedal so you know where it goes, other wise.....youve got a one and 27 chance of setting it right! thats my next trick, find the orentation of that lil booger! |
