Default 2010 EzGo RXV key switch from voltage reducer

Hey all, I'm new here and new to golf catrs. I purchased this cart last month and the experience was ok. Until I decided to add/repair some things.

So now I bought a new light kit with wire harness (took the old harness out)
New voltage reducer and a fuse block.

The issue I'm having is that I cannot wire it correctly to have the reducer/light kit turn on ONLY when the key is on. I have no idea on where to put the key switch wire from the reducer.

I've read many things regarding this and the only things I have NOT tried was attaching the key switch wire to the CONTROLLER side of the solenoid, or hooking it up to the red stray wire in the pic (red and purple wires pic)

Do I really need a relay for this? Did I hook something up wrong? I'm not a knowledgable person when it comes to electrical things. Please assit me! Thank you!

I have this same voltage reducer and power distribution block on my Club car. You want to run the thin red wire to the side of the switch that ONLY has voltage when the key switch is in the on position.

You can determine this using a multimeter or by trial and error.

I have tried that. I ended up with no power at all. I also read with these RXVs, never hook it to the actual switch. This is another reason I'm confused.

It is possible that your cart it is better to run it off the contactor like others have suggested in other threads.

My reducer is hooked up to the controller side of the solenoid, goes off with the key.
Touch the wrong two wires on a RXV and it's bye bye controller.

Without trying to thread jack here can you give me a brief overview of why that particular model is so dangerous like that?

Some wires are 5 volt, some are pack voltage, touch two together while probing and it can ruin the controller.
The pedal sensors run low voltage as does the key switch but I think there's 48v at the key switch also. I'm no expert but have read about people causing expense clouds while messing with the key switch.
The RXV is a rolling computer, different from most other electric carts.

Thanks for the insight.

I'm feeding a relay from the yellow wire of the keyswitch. That was done in 2018, before i've learned a lot about the RXV. So for me this still works but, IT's NOT RECOMMENDED , to do that ( read explaination from sbird )

This what I'm afraid of. What would be the wrong wires? I gave up and just ran the key switch wire to the battery. I tried leaving the wire off completely and there's no power if it's not hooked up. As it sits right now.. everything's functioning, except having the key turn the reducer on and off.
