Default clutch question!

I have a 1986 ezgo marathon, with the 244cc 2 stroke! my problem is when you get the cart up to speed it will suck the drive belt into the drivin clutch, and lock the rear axle up! any tips, or advice? thank you! And have a great day!

Dean3870,

Sounds like your driven clutch is locked up and not opening. As the drive clutch pulley gets bigger, the driven clutch is supposed to open up and get smaller. Hence the change in ratio. Put the cart up on jack stands and watch the clutches for proper operation. I had to disassemble my 87 driven clutch and give it a good cleaning, and lubricated the moving parts. Good luck. nomo

I wouldn't suspect the blet. I would still suspect the driven clutch. Internally it has a spring and some little slide pads called ramp buttons. Take the dust cover off the driven clutch and inspect for wear, damage, or missing ramp buttons.

If you have the wrong belt ... then having too short a belt could produce the same problem as a clutch not opening all the way.... what does the outside circumference of the belt measure? And the width? Thank you

I just checked, the belt od is 43 1/2 i know its supose to be 45" is that enough to do that? i its like the driven clutch opens to far, and sucks the belt into the center and locking it up!

sounds like a driven clutch issue to me. I have NEVER, heard of a short belt doing that.
