96 ezgo...top speed?

I test drove a 96 ezgo cart today. It was stock with the exception of an added rear seat. The batteries were 4 years and most likely ready for replacement. This cart was slow. I'm guessing 5-7 mph and real weak on some hills. Just curious what this baby could have done when newish with fresh batteries. I'm looking for a cart for my neighborhood and would like at least 12+ mph. this cart was also a 36volt. Should i expect the older stock ezgo carts to all be slow?? If so what year models should I be looking at to get in the 12-20mph range stock? Not opposed to a CC.

Stock carts with good batteries should all be running in the 13-15 MPH range. the addition of a rear seat might drop that by 1 MPH, but no more than that.

Look for a newer Ezgo PDS cart. They take mode chips with speeds from 13-19 mph.

Cool.. What about a 2007 Precedent CC. Take chips also? one here local fS around $1850.00 with 1 year old Sterling batteries?? No back seat or lights.

Yup...12 - 14 is where is should be. My 08 Pds ran 13 Mph with the back seat on, after the chip i'm doing 19 mph. Already need to upgrade the brakes at that speed, If I need to stop in a hurry going top speed, I'm screwed.

I have a 96 ezgo and before upgrades when it had its stock 2hp tin can motor it only went 11mph with 4 yr old batts and no rear seat. Also, no torque on hills. The newer models are much better. Scotty is right the PDS with chip is a good stock choice.
