2005 CC Precedent only runs on bat voltage
I just bought this, the older guy I bought from had just put a new gen/starter on it and a regulator. I've been reading threads on here and coming up with some answers but not all. The cart has a clutch kit and key start. It will start and run, as long as the battery is up. When I put my dvom on the battery it reads 12.7 then drops to 12.4 when running and eventually will drop lower. I am trying to diagnose whether it is the gen or reg that is bad. The battery was older so I did try that just in case. So I was reading how to full field the gen, I grounded the yellow wire going to the df terminal when I do this the wire gets extremely hot, so much I decided to post this to make sure I'm not doing it wrong. I left the yellow wire connected (I have ordered a new reg just in case) and I was grinding the yellow wire on the generator connector.

Grounding the yellow wire. Also, if it is the gen I see that buggies unlimited has one for key start, what is the difference in the gen? Is that maybe why it is failing? Maybe the guy put a Ching/Chang knockoff on it? HELP!!!

You should remove yellow wire from the df terminal. With a jumper, jump the df terminal on the generator to ground. Not the yellow wire from the regulator.

The cart not starting is not due to the starter. If the motor is cranking over your missing something else that will cause it to run.
Make sure the starter is wired correctly and tuning the motor in the right direction to start. Ive seen it before. |

It runs, but when it starts it is constantly discharging the battery, until it will no longer start die to battery.

If everything is wired correctly you probably have a bad starter/gen.
Also, check and make sure you have the correct constant duty solenoid. |

Wait is this key start after market? On a golf cart the solenoid is continuous duty.. so if key start is after market your engaging the solenoid to start and once it starts releasing the key disengages the solenoid resulting in no charging put your volt meter on the battery and hold the key in the start postion and go wide open throttle and see what it reads

It's the relay conversion they do with the clutch kit

Man, you had me thinking. I just went out and tested, it has continuity between the 2 large posts when running.
