Default Latest Project G1

Just picked this up Saturday afternoon, '82 Yamaha G1. Don't know if it runs or not, but the suspension definitely needs some work, some very scary welds on some parts. I'll start tearing into it this week and see what falls off.

About the wheels. I had a buddy that did the same thing. Honda rims match up with some backjard welding suspension upgrades [if you want to call them upgrades]. Not sure if they make a kit to lift it high enough for g1.

Yep they are car rims that they tried to drill out the lug bolt holes to make them fit, didn't work. There was only 1 lug nut holding each of the rims on. I had an extra set of stock rims laying around that I put on so it can be moved around without worrying the wheels were going to fall off. Overall its not in too bad of shape, the front cowl is pretty beat up, but the engine looks to be in good shape, not bad for 300 bucks. I'll get some pics up in the next day or two.

Some pics of what I've found so far. Speaker wire used as electrical wire, a little toasted.

Rear lift is a couple car shocks that have been extended and then muffler clamps put on them so that they won't compress.

Front has some drop brackets made out of 1/4" plate, not too bad, but again car shocks, only they are fully compressed. So in other words this thing has no suspension at all.

The welds on the tie rods are scary and one wasn't even connected.I'm gonna try to get started on the engine this weekend.

Though's are some "scary" pictures. Try a "search" for G1 lifts. Many Ron "TNG" did one on Geep1 right? You can do much better then that. Good luck and keep us posted on your new project.
