Thanks LGC. The problem is solved! It's so stupid I don't even think I'll say what it is. Oh, well, What the hell. This isn't the dumbest thing I've ever done, not even close, and it surely want be the last. As I said before I put on a new carb. That should have been the 1st clue. Unhooking the throttle with no effect should have been the 2nd. The problem was the idle adjustment screw was turned all the way down. When I backed off the screw, it idled right down. It took about a minute to find and correct the problem. Like the c/w song goes, "I was looking for love in all the wrong places". Thanks again LGC for pointing me in the right direction. I really do appreciate it. The kids and grand kids are coming down for a few days from Indiana. I'm sure they will appreciate it too.
