Default 1st time 86 marathon owner

do you need governor hooked to carb.or will I get more speed with it unhooked? and is there a certain torque for axle nut on brake hub

Welcome to the forum. Do you NEED the governor hooked up depends on you. If your cart is being driven by small children, old adults or drunken buddies then probably yes. The governor is a federally mandated safety feature designed to limit the top speed to 12mph. I would not want to advise you to remove a safety feature. That said I too have an 86 and when I rebuilt it I removed all the levers and cables on that basis that I am smart enough to realize that the throttle works in both directions. With 22 inch tires I can run at 20+ mph and that is good enough for me.

With regard to the hubs, the generally accepted wisdom is that you should tighten them up and then continue in the same direction to align the next slot in the castle nut with the hole to insert the split pin.

cable already off so I guess it will be ok to remove completly,since clutch still hits metal link and backs throttle back off.
