Ok, new problem (oil leaking)
Ok, I have a 1998 gas EZGO lifted. So today I adjusted the governer and went from 15 mph to 23 mph.... Yea... But, since I was under the seat I figured I would check the oil level. It was low, very low so I added 1 qt and it brought it up to full on the dip stick. Well as we were making runs to adjust the governer I smelled oil burning. I figured it was the oil cap that was difficult to get tight. But as I drove back into the garage, there was a large puddle of oil under the ol girl. So under the seat I went, and the was alot of oil draining out from the crankcase vent. It has a k&n filter tip on it. Any ideas??? Thanks for any and all help.

Re: Ok, new problem (oil leaking)
A lifted cart causes the engine to be tilted slightly. When this happens the actual full level of the crankcase is not identified by the dipstick. In other words you cant go by the stick level on a lifted cart. You will overfill it and it will be blown out the vent. Drain and add the man. specified capacity and make a new mark on the stick. This will be your new full level.

Hey FDlock, Did that work for you? You should only need 1 1/2 quarts and you'll be full.

Re: Ok, new problem (oil leaking)
oil level is usually right about the low part of the dip stick.

Re: Ok, new problem (oil leaking)
Thanks for following up guys. Yea, that did the trick. I drained the oil, and put 1.5 Qts back in and I marked the dipstick. No oil leaking. This site kicks butt. Now if I can only figure out the backfireing issue I will be golden.
Thanks again, Lock |

Re: Ok, new problem (oil leaking)
Have you adjusted the gov. to get more speed? If so you can probably go back to the butterfly in the carb. and adjust it to close when you let off the pedal. That is usually the side effect of gov. adjustment...

Re: Ok, new problem (oil leaking)
I have not checked the valves, and the plugs look new. I will take a look at the butterfly. Thanks for the help. It is pretty annoying, but it seems to get better when the ol girl warms up.
