Check the muffler, it could have a lot of oil in it from overfilling the crank case, etc. Search on here for muffler BBQ.

No oil in the muffler but the oil delivery hose was cracked where it goes into the nozzle at the motor. I hope that was it.

Today, I got the sheave reinstalled, the valve clearances set and replaced the gear oil. The rocker arm box looks really cruddy. Also, the transmission only had about a cup of oil. I think she has been a little neglected.

Bill set me up the the shop manual (thanks a million) so with this in hand, I am going to do a compression test to see where I stand. I'll post an update later today.

Not a problem on the manuals, hope they help.

If you end up finding the engine is too far gone you just might want to consider going with a clone. I haven't gone there with mine yet but probably will someday just for the added torque.

Yup! Stock is what? Close to 16 horse?

285cc? I was thinking the Predator motor at over 400cc... Am I on the right track here guys?
