Default Yamaha g1 stops after a short time

I am new to the forum. New to having to try to keep my elderly fathers golf cart running! The cart is his escape from the house. It has been very dependable until now. I have had to replace a few parts on it but this is a whole new area. It starts and runs fine for about 200ft. Then nothing. I tried the basics cleaned connections, tried a different battery that I know is a good battery. Still a short distance and dead. I did recently replace the ignition. Could this have something to do with it? I know I am a total rookie here so I really appreciate any help!

So when you say "dead" that implies it won't do anything. Does it crank/spin the engine but does not start? Or will it not even crank/spin the engine over?

If, when you push the gas pedal down, it won't even spin the engine over, then I would look to low/bad battery, bad connections, loose or broken connections including little wires with plugs on them.

If, when you push the pedal down, the engine spins but it won't start and run, then I would look toward the basics: fuel pump, carburetor, spark plug, and compression.

Check all the "sticky's" at the top of the Gas Yamaha page. These might help...

It sounds like you have some mechanical skills. These carts are pretty easy to work on and you came to the right place for help.

Here is a document that might help you if you end up getting into the engine. I think you can buy the full service manual from the sponsors of this site. If you are going to keep and maintain the cart, it would be a wise investment.
