Also. I was planning on bypassing the governor completely.....There seems to be a lot of slop in the 2 cables connected together. I've tried adjusting it... I either have the carb not opening all the way, and closing completely, or opening all the way, and not closing completely.....Will the single cable, and bypassing the governor help with that?

Deerslayer, are you having a problem with backfiring? If not then the carb is closing all the way.

No I'm not having backfiring problems, but I was when I got the cart. I adjusted the cable to where the carb closes when you let off the pedal. It no longer backfires, but it will no longer open all the way. I have to have it one way or the other. It seems like it is not able to close off when you let off the pedal, and open up completely when you press wide open on the pedal...I just tested out the new spring.....It definitely has more torque I can spin the tires now, but I lost a few mph off the top end...I'll probably bypass the governor completly in the next day or two.

Slayer, I put the car in forward gear, and nugged the car forward, which turned the spring seat. I had a buddy help hold the sheave from turning, (which was loading the spring) till the spring seat went past the ramps on the sheave. Then we ratcheted up the strap to pull the sheave up against the spring seat. That is the preloading process. Then we put in the woofdruff key and the outer sheave and nut on.

And yes, by passing the gov makes all that linkage go away, but I'd drive it a few weeks before you do that. Get some seat time, and a feel for what kind of RPM the motor is running!!

Ok sounds good. It definitely helped out. The torque is way higher. I can spin the tires in my yard now! I'm not that worried about the lower top speed, but I figure when I bypass the governor completely I'll get some of it back. Will this spring break in some? Will it get a bit softer after awhile? I wasn't sure if it would....There is a little bump on the backside of the gas pedal, and if that wasn't there I could get the carb to open fully, and shut completely when I let off the pedal.....Has anyone else had that problem? I just can't get the pedal to do the full travel from the carb closed at rest to open fully at full throttle. I was hoping one cable without slack in it (the governor, and 2 cables) would allow the pedal to full open and close the carb.....

I did cut the top of the peddle off to get full throttle, but my gov is by passed. Hate to tell you, but I think you need to go back in and pre load that clutch. Will operate much smother if done rite.

It seems to accelerate, and run really smooth. Better than it ever has in fact. Its just way more power in the low now.....What does preloading the spring do? Now that I am familiar with it I could prolly do it reasonably quick, but I'd rather not tear into it again....lol

Not sure. Can't tell ya what preloading does, just know Yamaha did it for a reason. Need the big guys for that. But spinning the tires in the yard makes me think the clutches are articulating to quickly and maybe the car won't perform well on a hill, or trying to go over a rock or something like that.

One way or another, you will find out!!

I will tell ya, go slow, read this site, learn as you go, and have fun! Learn to do all maint. Maint. is the key to a great running car!! Make the car run well stock, then do the performance work! That's what I did!! Yamaha's respond to tuning very well!! Enjoy!!

Understood. I might have came off wrong with saying it will spin in the yard now. It will spin the tires around when I floor it. It does grab traction and take off, but if I push the throttle normally it doesn't spin the tires. I plan on testing on some hills in the next day or 2. The creeks are flooded, and got to wait for them to go down...
