G9 Hill power
recently picked up a G9 that the motor was gone thru. The trouble that I'm having is when I go up hills a little choke seems to help the power problem that I encounter. I've sprayed startinf fluid around every thing that I can think of (including the crank seals) but can detect no RPM change. I pulled the carb, removed the jets, float, and cleaned throughly, blew out, reassembled (reset the float) but still have the same problem. Wrong jets? valve lash? am I overlooking something?

Re: G9 Hill power
Looks like your doing everything right. But you need to go through the air box and make sure it seals (lid) up well. Yamaha's are real picky about air leaks.
Also there is a plastic spacer between the carb and the head, and it cracks and sucks air. Hope this helps, Mike |

Re: G9 Hill power
I actually wired the airbox lid down to get a good seal, no cracks in the plastic manifold.

Re: G9 Hill power
What does your spark plug look like ? Do you have the factory air filter?

Re: G9 Hill power
sparkplug is light tan,has loose carbon creeping up the back of the side electrode, gapped @.030, don't know if filter is factory but it looks new, doesn't have a foam element cover.........(later same day) - bypassed the gov. When starting out the engine seems to have a miss, back off the pedal and slowly ease into it and the miss goes away when you reach crusing speed. happens whether hot or cold. choke has no effect on this.

Re: G9 Hill power
Try it with the intake hose off the carb. Won`t cost nothing. Are the valves adjusted correctly?

Re: G9 Hill power
Drill the main jet approximately .003" to .004" larger than it currently is. It will make a world of difference!!

Re: G9 Hill power
glad you got it sorted out but i would have checked the mixture before you drilled out the jet but what ever gets it done! mixture should be out 1 1/2 turns btw.
