Default Alltrax SR48500 Controller

I recently installed a new high speed/torque motor, Alltrax SR-48500, heavy duty solenoid, heavy duty F/R switch, and 4 gauge wires on 93 club car ds 36v. I am seeing no difference in speed, and the cart loses quite a bit of speed going uphill. Under full throttle the status light on the controller is solid amber. According to Alltrax that means to check the motor. That is all it says. What do I check?

The amber or orange LED indicates that the controller is seeing a full throttle signal from the cart. Check the battery pack voltage while operating at full throttle and going uphill as fast as it is possible. Report that voltage here.

A series (SR) controller will allow the stock motor to access more amperage. It does not induce more speed unless a lack of amperage was causing a slowdown like in the case where big tires caused the motor to draw more power than the older smaller controller could allow. 48 volts will induce the stock motor to make more speed and torque.

I tested the batteries at full charge and they read 38.3 volts. Under load it dropped to 31 volts. The date on the batteries (US Batteries) is February 2016. I am pretty sure that I need new batteries.

You most probably do need new batteries if fully charged they are dropping that much voltage under load.
