Carb needle good?
Most all of my automotive experience has been with fuel injection... Getting into carbs is foreign territory for me.
Ive read some posts about having to replace the needle jet but am unsure how to determine. Im fixing up an 88 G2 & finally got it running... But it runs much better with the airbox disconnected. Ive done my best to seal the box (on of the tabs on the top is broken off) but doesnt change. It cant maintain full throttle for more than a few seconds without needing to choke it. But with no box, it flys! Which seems backwards to me... If, with box on, I need to choke it to stay running... That would mean too much air is the problem? But running great with no box also means unlimited air. I dont get it. I cant find a new air box, not even just the top... So I used silicone and duct tape............. Back to the needle... So it controls the air/fuel mix... Maybe I need work there too? Currently screwed in and backed out 1.5 turns. Ive attached a pic of it... Looks clean and sharp but maybe a little crooked? I dont have anything to compare it to though. What do you think? |

Re: Carb needle good?
That needle looks like it's been cranked down too tight, too many times. I'd replace it.

Re: Carb needle good?
I think what you need they either call it a pilot-screw or air-fuel mixture screw.
Hopefully someone on the board will have a part number |

Re: Carb needle good?
that needle just effects the air for takeoff not high speed the pilot jet may be pluged, very small hole in the end also the main might be restricted those air cleaners have to be put together and sealed tight or they run lean at high speed.we see them alot with a piece of hose behind the chock knob holding it on so it will run because they didnt get the box sealed.we may have one in ga store used give us a call
