My Drive Build
It has only taken me a month but I finally have most everything I want to upgrade my cart. I am starting with a stock Yamaha Gas Drive and after many deliveries from the brown truck and constant explanation to the wife on the need for everything; I am ready to start the build. I figured it would be easier if I bought everything I wanted and just did one install versus doing items here and there. This site definitely helped in my decisions as the amount of accessories you guys have added are amazing and the feedback/reviews on items have been great.
I have the following things to do for the build: Add Overhead Consoles for Speakers and Stereo Install a 6 Inch Jakes Lift and 22x11x12 Wheels Cover Front Seat Install Rear Flip Down Seat Install Headlights and Tail Lights Install Review Mirror Put in Speed Spring Install LED Ground Lights Install Cigarette Lighter Outlet Install Fuse Box Paint Roof, Roof Supports, and Body Here is the plan of attack (trying to eliminate doing something that would require me to take it apart to do something else) and if anyone has advice on what to do not to do I would appreciate it. Build the Speaker and Stereo consoles (have no metal or fiberglass ability so building out of wood) Cut out the light areas Tear down the cart Remove Roof and Body and other necessary parts Paint Roof and Body Using a rhino liner for the top and PlastiDip for body Install the lift kit and wheels Add the Speed Spring Install fuse box Run wiring Not finished but to the general areas Install LED lights on Frame Reinstall Body After oil change, new spark plugs, etc. Add Headlights and Tail Lights / Wire them in Add Cigarette Lighter Outlet / Wire it Add Rear Seat Frame Install speakers and Stereo / Wire it Add the review mirror Staple on front seat cover and install front and back seats (If I dont do this last I know I will ruin them while working on something else) Well that the plan unless someone has thoughts based on their builds. Here is a picture of the virgin cart and I will update as I make progress. Also, I know the next phase is to work with plowman on the clutch and set up. The good thing is I am only 1 ½ hours away so after some riding I will be able to have a better idea on my needs and I can take it up to him to work on. Thanks again to authors of the many posts I have read to make my decisions on the build and items. |

Well I have the over head speaker and stereo consoles roughed out, the lights areas cut out, and the body removed.
The biggest pain was taking out all of the plastic rivets. Before I replace with new ones has anyone used bolts instead? I know in some areas I won't have an option but almost all of them were a pain to remove and I tore the majority apart even breaking some plastic supports. I was also stuck on removing the f/r lever but to no surprise the answer was in these forums. Next up is a wash, prepping the body for paint, and installing the lift. |

When you install speed spring, start saving money for a new input shaft in a few years. Its gonna happen. When your cart has no speed governing at all, time to change input shaft.

CG - Can you give me more details or elaborate? I thought the speed spring was the safest option when trying to increase the speed without zip tying or by passing the governor completely.

The "speed spring" goes on the governor arm/throttle cables right? The collar on the input shaft wears from the tension of the stock spring, putting a heavier spring in there cant make the situation any better.

Here is the latest. Everything cleaned and painted. The plasti dip came out better than I thought. When I applied it looked like it was going to be horrible but it dried out evenly. The lift kit went on fairly easy and I have most of the wires and electrical accessories ran. I went with the fuse block and I am mounting it under the cup holders. Will need to remove a few screws to get to it but figured it would be high and dry. In all the planning I forgot to buy fuses and only had the small ones on hand. Was able to test everything with one fuse from the cart. I did install an Oooga horn but it sounds like a dying cow. I didn't use a rely and just direct wired with a foot switch. Looks like I need a relay to make it function properly. Other than that things have gone pretty well. Next up is to finish securing the wires to the cart and putting on the body and top.

Me too i went with a 6 fuse distribution block with negative buss all in one unit from a boating store on amazon. Mounted it with velcro underneath the cup holders close to all my toggle switches.
