Ezgo 1989 Electric Golfcart
I am new to this site so please be kind ?? I am looking to upgrade my Golf cart can anyone help me please . The things I know about the cart is, its an 1989 ezgo Merathon 36volt golfcart it has the old stlye resister coils and the original motor I want more speed out of it. what can I do to accomplish this and the batteries are all going to be replaced they are trojans but dont seem to keep there charge very long thanks for any info

Go with 6 8v batteries and a 48v pack. You'll need to be mindful of the FNR and the resistor coils. They will heat up and fail with a lot of low speed driving. The resistor coils are out of the circuit at full stop and wide open throttle ONLY. Driving one is kind of like; floor it, lift; floor it, lift; floor it, lift. Upgrade both of these items and you can drive it normally as you would a 36v.

so I can use 8 volt batteries instead of 6 volts and what about the resistor coils can they be upgraded

There used to be a "performance" set of resistor coils. IIRC, IPC made them.
