Default Dana Differential.....

What is the circular item below the main input shaft? Is this an access point to something? Just wondering....

There is one on the opposite side as well. When replacing gears this exposes the shaft and snap rings to remove the intermediate gear. There is a recent post about just these soft plugs and a gear swap but I couldn't find it easily.

Thanx, EZ. I figured as much. Looks like it would get destroyed by removing it?

Some folks have success pulling them with a sheet metal screw.
and then plugging the hole. I have never been able to reuse a welsh plug
in my life.

there is also a 4X4 kit on the market that utilizes the outside plug to engage a drive shaft that goes to the front differential. I forget who makes it, but I remember reading about it a year or so ago. I think Stealth also uses this for that purpose on their carts as well.
