Welcome to the site scotthawk55. There is a big difference between GEL and AGM batteries. They have similar deep cycle characteristics except for charging, GEL cells cannot stand a high temperature charge and AGM's have no trouble with it.
The other difference is cost, AGM's cost 3x the price of lead acid. |

Yep you're right, and i maintain 6 battery back up systems and have gel's agm's and lead acid batteries in them all deep cycle all on the same type of maintainer/charging system tested monthly all perform well. The lead acid batteries tend to leak after time but other than that they are all good, and all seem to perform equally.
