Default power difference between 8 and 12 volt

I have an 08 precedent with the 4, 12 volt batteries. From reading the forum I feel confident that the majority of people feel a switch from 4 to 6 batteries will give slightly longer run time. My question is will it give me more power. Exa: if used on extreme hills will it make any difference. Not used for golf but for hunting. Thanks

The stronger the pack the greater torque you will get. Comparing new bats at full charge probably no difference. But the longer you run them you should see greater perfomance from the 8 volt setup. The 8 volts will probably last a few years longer than the 12's as well. I converted and my carts performance was improved greatly, mainly in longer run times, speed was unaffected.

If you are considering it read up on Canine's thread toward the top of the stickies for a cheaper and easier way to convert.

I just converted mine and an extremely pleased with the outcome. If you decide to convert and use the CC kit pm me. I have a NIB kit I need to part with.

This is a subject up for debate. If you did a test over 6 years with a set of 8V and a set of 12V the 8V might out last them by a little but at the end of the day you still have 24 total cells no matter 12 or 8V. Each individual cell is what makes up the total voltage of the pack and that does not differ so I wonder why people think that 6 8V are so much better than 4 12V? You still have 24 cells and they dont care whether there are 6 or 4 of them attached to each other. With brand new batteries your going to be pleased with how they run because they will have more push then your old ones.

The fact that the cart companies went back to 6-8v from 4-12v tells me enough.

The motor consumes amperage not voltage. The motor does not care how many cells it is connected to. It's only care is how many amps can I have!?

Regardless of the voltage the motor wants to draw 100% of the available amperage which is why we use speed controllers to limit them.

A good 6v battery will have 220 amp hours (ah)
a good 8v battery 190 ah
a good 12v battery 150 ah

Each of these three packs below= 48 volts.
8/6v
6/8v
4/12v
The voltage is the same.... Look at the AH and here is where the difference comes in:
8/6v = 1760 ah
6/8v = 1140 ah
4/12v = 600 ah

I think that is self explanatory

There are all types of higher or lower rated deep cycle batteries in all 3 categories...what I am talking about is apples to apples. Like a T-1275 and T-860 for instance, are pretty closely rated as far as ah rates go. The ONLY reason that makes 8V batteries better is that they offer better ah capacity ratings. If you could get a 12V with 145/170 ah rating then it would be a whole different ballgame.

Put your numbers in my equations above and show me where I am wrong, please.

scotty, would your numbers give more power, torque, on hills?

Having more amperage is equivalent to having a bigger gas tank.
Amperage = torque
Voltage = speed.
