Default Shackle length

I need to raise the rear of my cart by an 1". I am going to make longer shackles, some one correct me if I am wrong but what I know about shackles is they have to be longer than the desired lift, so to get 1" you have to make/use 2" longer shackles. Correct?

I think you would only make them 1" longer. The 1" shackle lift kit i saw for my 92 Ds was only 1" bigger than my stock one. Stock my shackle is 5" hole center to center. On the 1" lift kit shackle i saw them to be 6" hole center to center. Hope that helps you

If I understand everything that TahoeDawg was telling me, 1" longer rear shackle will push the front spring mount up 1'' (seesaw effect) raising the wheel well an inch.

I used HD rear springs on mine and got 1 1/2 inch lift.

Not necessarily. The shackle is angled into the spring. It's not coming in directly from the upper mount to the lower. If it was, this would be correct assuming the spring center pin is in the absolute center of the spring. With the shackle sitting at the angle that it sits, I'd estimate about 1.5" in added length to get 1" of lift.

So I made my own shackles, turned out real nice. Made them exactly 2" longer than stock, gave me 1.5" of lift, sits proper now.

Great thread and insteresting. I just mounted 26's under mine and looks like I need anout 3/4" to an 1" lift in the rear.

Do you just use standard steel or aluminum?
