Re: Cc precedent - 4-12v vs 6-8v battery range shootout!
I have a 2005 Club car with the 4-12v and just replaced my batteries. My old set were Trojan 1275 plus. The date on my old batteries were 2010. I don't know where the 12v don't last as long came from. But I got almost 8 years out of mine. A lot to me comes down to doing proper maint on batteries.
I use mine around the house and camping all summer long. I have a rear seat and stock tires. I looked into the 8v conversion but passed. |

I think it depends largely on how you use it. If you go a couple miles then Plug your cart back into the charger you're not really deeply discharging your batteries however if you're someone like me in a lot of the other guys on here that go 10 15 20 miles in a single night on a single charge that's asking much more of your batteries and those are the results I am actually looking for the numbers

Re: Cc precedent - 4-12v vs 6-8v battery range shootout!
IMHO there are too many variables for these comparisons to be meaningful. Terrain, battery type, battery brand, modifications (incl tyre size), how the cart is driven, battery maintenance, general cart maintenance (brakes, bearings etc), age of cart, age of batteries, payload, weather, time of year etc etc.
The only way to be scientific about it would be to run a cart with 6x8V for 12 months then swap the batteries in the same cart to 4x12V and run another 12 months using the same type of driving over the same terrain with the same maintenance regime. |

That's why I asked for such a specific breakdown of all those details when comparing range of specific batteries

Re: Cc precedent - 4-12v vs 6-8v battery range shootout!
Let's look at from a battery energy storage capacity and set up a model to compare. For my model I have chosen the Trojan T1275 12 volt battery and the Trojan Ranger 160 8 volt battery.
From Trojan's data: (1) T-1275 battery can deliver 25 amps for 280 minutes (1) 160 can deliver 25 amps for 430 minutes Now, set up 2 identical stock carts on a long stretch of flat road. For the sake of this test lets say that each cart will go 1 mph with the motor drawing 25 amps. The cart with (4) T1275's can travel: 280 x4 divided by 60 x 1mph = ~18.7mi The cart with (6) 160's can travel: 430 x 6 divided by 60 x 1mph = 43 mi |

Re: Cc precedent - 4-12v vs 6-8v battery range shootout!
The x4 or x6 does not apply here since the batteries are not in parallel.
Just use the minutes @ 56amps for a rough estimate when comparing the batteries, but even then it is not that accurate since given the same amount of energy removed from an 8v and a 12v battery, the 12v battery will not last as long since that same energy equates to a greater DOD (depth of discharge) on the 12v battery. |

Re: Cc precedent - 4-12v vs 6-8v battery range shootout!
So, I upgraded my battery pack big time today. Got the USbattery 8VHATB xc2 - 205 amp hour batteries (highest AH rated 8v on the market that I'm aware of. Took it out for a small test ride. Voltage indicated 95% before I left the garage. Went for a 6 mile trip, voltage indicated 90% when I got back in the garage and let the batteries recover 15 minutes. I'm very please with that considering my 2010 precedent has 6" lift, 23"off road tires, and a high power d&d motor. I can't wait to see the the range ability of these batteries after I do give then a proper break-in.
