Replace speed sensor. Jack up rear and make sure wheels turn semi freely without much effort (with cart in tow and off). If wheels turn freely, you have a motor issue. Have motor rebuilt or replaced. Problem solved.

Got a response from D&D- make any sense? I dont even know where the brushes are or how to test, but will research.

You may want to check to see if the brushes got seized up in their slots. They should be able to move freely. If they are seized up that could be the issue.

Regards

Eric

Yes walter, it makes the click and motor makes sparks.

Yes, Htown, wheels turn. The motor actually turns them when jacked up. Believe you are right, hoping for the brushes issue. Cant believe motor would go out so quickly. Have a GE motor on our other cart that has been running strong for over 20 years now.

Thank you

Posted this in another thread. It may help.

I would pull the motor and check it and clean.
This is the GE motor with magnet on the end of the armature shaft. Not a D&D.
This is the used brush set cleaned up with brushes parked ready for install.
Also clean up the commutator as well as you can.
Inspect the bearing for excessive play and replace if necessary.
Post some some pics so we can see how it looks.

Finally got the time to work on it. My dumbness caused a fire and hoping didnt cause to much more damage. Plate under controller was touching battery terminal when trying to get motor out and the tow switch being off didnt matter? When I touched the motor with a cable end, big spark and brake cable of all things caught fire and melted. Only other damage I see is one melted battery terminal and hoping thats it.

But, got the motor out and no continuity between a1- a2 and my friend with more knowlege than me says my brushes are stuck. D&D costs $250 and I would rather not pay that when I dont even know if the other parts of cart are damaged. Is cleaning these brushes a possibility for home job?

The commutator looks rough and needs a cleanup.
I think the brush length is still ok but the brushes may be sticking in the guides.
I would remove the brush plate and armature and clean them along with a compressed air blowout of the housing.

If the brushes are really worn down the spring pressure on them will be less.
They may not make solid contact with commutator and will cause excessive sparking.
