Default Club Car DS Performance Upgrades

Hey All,

I've got a 1999 Club Car DS (Series 48V), and I recently bought and installed an HD F&R switch, an AllTrax SR 48500 Controller, and 400A Solenoid from Carts Unlimited. I also upgraded all of my wiring to 2GA welding wire with pure copper lugs. My cart has 14" aluminum wheels with 23" tires. I still have the stock motor. Battery pack is about 2 months old at this point.

Prior to these upgrades the cart was able to do 13-15 mph on flat ground (it would get up to 13 relatively quick and then slowly make it up to 15) and would struggle to maintain 10mph on even the slightest hills. After these upgrades I'm seeing 15-16 mph on flat ground and it gets up to that speed very quickly, and it holds about 12-13mph going up some small hills.

Does this sound about right in terms of what I should be seeing? Its definitely performing better, but I was kind of expecting to see a bit better performance on those hills (like holding the same 15mph it does on flat ground).

At this point I'm curious if I should look at upgrading the motor. I'd like to see something like 18-20mph on flat ground that can also be maintained going up hill. I'm not sure if thats feasible or not.

I JUST had this conversation with Scotty...
Here is his exact quote (And I think we can all trust him!!)

"This is a Series drive cart. The original 48v series motors do not make much speed. Using the OEM motor the cart will go 12-14 mph with any controller in it.
Upgrade to a Admiral B1 motor with a SR48500 controller, 400 solenoid, 2g cable set and fresh batteries. It should get 18 mph on 18" tires or 20 mph on 20" tall tires with no lift.
Thanks for asking"

I think that might answer your question...
Just out of curiosity...
Why do all the other upgrades without doing the motor while you were there?

B1 is an E-Z-Go motor. The Club Car Motor is A1.

You're welcome. Don't forget the heavy duty F&R switch. With that kind of power, the factory switch will self-destruct.

If it's not, you need to add it. The HD switch has copper buss bars. The factory switch has aluminum buss bars. The aluminum can't conduct that kind of power so it heats up and the switch melts.

Murphy's Law dictates the switch will only melt when you are the furthest from the house closest to dark
