Torque needed
I have a (48v) 2006 DS Cart with Sepex controller (Curtis 250 amp unit), Plum Quick Bandit motor, 2-gauge Battery Cables, and a fairly new set of four 12v, Trojan T-1275 batteries.
I primarily use the cart in the neighborhood to putt around on ,....AND on the weekend, I use it to pull my car around the Drag Race track,... from the pits to the staging lanes. Most of the time it's flat,....BUT,... this past weekend we had to deal with a slight incline and the cart seemed to struggle. I'm thinking a 400 amp controller,... in conjunction with an upgraded solenoid would help my situation? Any suggestions on what I should do ? |

Re: Torque needed
Alltrax XCT400 IQ controller with a heavy duty solenoid. The 200 amp solenoid is typically sufficient for a 400 amp controller, but if you're pushing or pulling a race car it may be a wise investment for you to go ahead and get a 400 amp solenoid.

Torque needed
A 400 or 500 Amp Alltrax will produce tons of torque. Make sure you’re on all 2G cables if not already.
Edit- I just saw you have 2G cables already. [emoji1303] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Torque needed
Since you're a motor guy you should understand this. Suppose you wanted more torque in your drag racer. What would you go for first, a bigger carburetor or a bigger motor. Attached is an Alltrax analogy.

Re: Torque needed
If you are pulling a car or an airplane (yes they tow airplanes) with a cart I suggest you get the biggest control, solenoid, and a torque motor for the best results.

ALSO,...."IF",......I did decide to do a motor upgrade as well (which I'd prefer not to,...due to a limited budget), what would you recommend ? . . Sent from my SM-G900R6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Torque needed
Admiral MOT-A4 high torque motor. Scottyb is right. If you're using a Bandit motor now, it's not the best idea to be using it in high torque applications if it's based on the original GE thin OEM motor. The GE motors have very small brushes and can't take the abuse that a true torque motor can handle. Even after PQ works their Bandit magic, which is an excellent upgrade, it still has tiny brushes.

Amps=Torque. I would go with a 500 amp Alltrax and HD solenoid. You will greatly increase torque with 2X amps. With Alltrax, you can use your laptop create a program for towing race car and a different program for puttering around the hood . The PQ motor may or may not handle what you are asking it to do. Monitor temp. If it is getting hot, then I would replace with hi torque motor. If you upgrade motor, you are going to need more amps, so either way you will need to upgrade controller. Start with controller upgrade. I think you just need more amps. |
