Newer DS plastic front cowl fitting 85 frame.
Is there any trick to getting a newer plastic ds front cowl to fit on an older ds that previously had a fiberglass front cowl. I cannot get the cowl to slide up far enough to bolt up. I’ve seen spacers mentioned, but I don’t know where exactly they would go or how that would help.

Sometimes you have to cut off the two tabs at the bottom to make it fit. I’ve done it a few times. I put a plastic body on an 82 once and it worked.

Did you use spacers for where the top tabs bolt to the frame?
So you cut the bottom tabs off that slide in behind the side rail? |

I had to cut the bottom tabs off of mine because my ‘88 didn’t have slots for them. I don’t think the top tabs were a problem. Don’t the bolts go through holes in the tabs?

Needs about 1/4 to 3/8 spacer on the top where the windshield frame bolts through

Re: Newer DS plastic front cowl fitting 85 frame.
i'll try to post a few pictures tonight when I get home. The "windshield frame" tabs do not go all the way in where a bolt could go through. The tabs at the bottom on each side do slide most of the way in. I hope to have some spacers in the next day or 2 to see if that helps any.

Re: Newer DS plastic front cowl fitting 85 frame.
The bottom tabs slide in, but this is as far as the rest of the body will go. It seems like the cowl is too thick in several areas to even fit under the frame edge. You can see the old line on the cowl it should slide in to.
I got some spacers in, but i'm guessing they go under the cowl where the forward roof struts bolt up? I don't think these will help my dilemma. I'm thinking I might need to sand down the edge of the cowl to make it fit? Not sure which direction I need to go. |
