need simple instructions for OBC bypass...sticky is confusing
2004 CC DS...OBC has failed. From what I can tell, it appears the easiest fix is to bypass the OBC completely, and get a smart charger.
I saw the sticky on bypassing the OBC. Although I am a pretty smart guy, I could not make heads or tails, as it seems to start in the middle of a discussion, and there are conflicting comments, and I could not tell what pertained to my issue, and what did not. I need some help to get this done: A. where is the OBC? B. what is the best and most direct method to totally bypass it? If anyone can help me with that, thank you in advance. Jim |

A. Location
In a 2004 Precedent The OBC is located in the Electronics compartment between the batteries, just follow the pack negative cable and it runs right trough it.B. By-Pass Cut all of the wires flush with the OBC body (except for the 6ga cable running through it since You still need it).Tape all of the other cut wires individually so they don't short against anything. |

After I do those two wires, do I still connect the two black 10ga wires? Is that all there is, or is there more for a DS? I have the DIP charger on it's way. |

Re: need simple instructions for OBC bypass...sticky is confusing
You one smart fella, Serg. I thought it was grey...shined a light, it was white.
I cut/tied/spliced them per the instructions, and the cart runs fine, so I know I got that part right. I thought I would be able to at least get a brief charge with the "dumb" charger I have, but it still will not click over. My individual batteries are showing 8-9 volts each. I don't know how to get a pack reading, so don't know if they are too low as a pack to trigger the charger. How do I get a pack voltage reading? jim |

Your old charger will not work with OBC bypass.
You need a smart charger to charge you pack now. To check pack voltage: Put - DVM probe on terminal that has the cable going thru the OBC, + probe goes on terminal with cable going to solenoid. |

Thanks for the pack voltage instructions. I currently have 43V to the pack. I have run the car for 36 holes, plus a couple trips back and forth to the course, so I am not surprised it is down a bit. Should have the Gen IV Accusense Charger by Tuesday. |

What version is the DPI charger that Cart King sells with their label on it? Assume thats the Gen IV?

You will have to open up the Powerdrive Charger and bypass the relay inside. When you do this, use the A/C plug that goes in the wall to start the charger and shut it off. Warning: This will be a manual charge and it will NOT shut off by itself so check your pack voltage every couple of hours and once you see ~61-63 volts, unplug it from the wall.

Re: need simple instructions for OBC bypass...sticky is confusing
If You splice the "gray" wire from the charger receptacle with the two 10ga black wires, the old charger will turn ON as soon as You plug to the cart.
It will not turn OFF automatically, You need to keep an eye on the pack voltage and disconnect the cahrger when it reaches 60v+. To avoid sparks near the charging batteries, it is best to: Plug charger to cart first then to AC power. |
