Popping in steering and corrosion
I’m breaking down a 2008 precedent almost to the frame and have a couple of questions. Just before I was retiring it to the garage, I was taking the steering wheel off. It was very stubborn and I ended up forcing too far past it’s stopping point and heard a pop. I couldn’t really turn the wheel and see underneath at the same time, so not really sure what it was. It it was a little loose and popped again a couple of times when driving it into the garage while turning. I thought I would figure it out when I broke it down, but haven’t seen anything out of order yet. It feels like something in the steering linkage.
I also noticed this section of the frame under the battery box is pitted and corroded. I have sprayed with water/baking so and it does not fizz anymore. Should I do anything for this? And yes, I am changing the brake line and mount. |

Re: Popping in steering and corrosion
on the popping noise I would get someone to turn the steering wheel while you watch the steering knuckle to see if is binding up any, that sometimes causes a pop noise and feeling in the wheel. As far as the corrosion I would give it a good wire brushing now that you have neutralized the acid and give it a good coat of clear coat afterwards to help prevent future corrosion on the frame.

Re: Popping in steering and corrosion
Beachguy yes that linkage above the steering box if you have it apart check to make sure that it move freely and doesn't have a sticking or binding spot in it. If it is binding I would give Tahoedog a call (site sponsor) at Revolution golf carts and order another one. They are reasonably cheap.
