Default Can't Find the Run/Tow Switch

First step of my lift install says to put the cart in tow mode.

First, why? What does this switch have to do with installing a lift?

Second, what does the the run & tow modes actually protect?

Third, I've got a manual and the picture of the F/R switch area doesn't look like my cart, and there is no apparent run/tow switch as pictured in the manual.

I've got a 2000 CC DS. Can anyone enlighten me?

You may not have one, only Sepex carts (except for early Regen 1) have Tow/Run switches.

They are necessary as the Controller uses Dynamic Brake to keep the Motor from turning if it detects movement and the Controller did not initiate it.

You should also unplug the pack negative cable since accidentally dropping a wrench on the Motor cables will damage the Controller.

Edit:

You have a Series cart, use the diagram below:

First, thank you for the info. But I don't understand why my manual would depict a Sepex cart. Did they make both Sepex and Series in 2000?

My manual does show diagrams for the 36 V cart which it labels as a V-Glide, and the 48 V labelled as a PowerDrive. Because my cart is 48 V, I assumed the PowerDrive diagrams should apply to my cart. Now I noticed some of the diagrams are labelled PowerDrive Plus - also a 48 V cart.

So is that possible - their are 3 versions - 36 V-Glide, 48 V PowerDrive, and 48 V PowerDrive Plus? Is one of these versions a Sepex?

Yes they had all three models in 2000.

The Powerdrive plus is Sepex.

From your pictures You have a Powerdrive 48, which is a Series cart and should match the diagram I posted if You don't have a good copy.

Yes, I see. The F/R switch in the diagram you sent does look like my switch. Much obliged. What a great forum.
