New tires rubbing in rear.
installed new 215/35-12 tires on my 97 DS. Also installed new 3 leaf, rear leaf springs. The problem is that the body rubs on the tires when i have two adults on the back seat. All the research I've done shows that i should be all set with these springs but the tires still rub. I have the stock shocks and can replace them but im not sure they will really help. Any thoughts?

Re: New tires rubbing in rear.
Shocks will not fix a rub. They are just dampeners.
You may want to put a 1" block in the rear to raise it that far and you should be able to clear them then. |

Re: New tires rubbing in rear.
There is a half moon saddle block over each axle tube; you get you a piece of 1/4" x 2" flat bar from Tractor Supply and cut you four - 4" long pieces and stack them on top of the saddle and under the leaf springs so you lift the cart one (1) full inch. If you have aluminum stock and a milling machine you can just mill you out a 1" thick x 2" wide x 4" long block. Your U-bolts may have to be replaced if they are not long enough. Just measure them before installation.

Re: New tires rubbing in rear.
Thanks guys, but from the way you are describing the spacer location, are you thinking that I have a lifted cart? I don't, it is stock height so I don't understand the block location. What if I lengthen the spring shackle an inch or whatever it takes? That will raise the back of the body.

Re: New tires rubbing in rear.
If the cart does not have a lift the springs are under the axle. A block will not lift the cart until you put the springs above the axle.

Go with a shackle, may need to extend the shocks though,...

Re: New tires rubbing in rear.
Yeah my springs are under the axle, which is why I was confused with how the spacer block would work. I made some longer shackles today with two hole/length options. Install can't happen until Friday though. Thanks for all the help!
