Re: club car carryall VI will idle but won't Rev
Wait a minute!
I just remembered that a key start cart has an ACR (Automatic Compression Relief valve) at factory specs... it should show around 70 psi, so your not completely "out of the realm" and yes... the same rules about spark for cars, apply to carts also! you can clean the spark plug up and give that a shot! (should be a NGK BP5ES) |

Re: club car carryall VI will idle but won't Rev
That's the exact plug that's in it. A plug is cheap so I'll just stop by and pick one up and try it tomorrow, probly a can or two of cleaner and if the plug doesn't fix the problem and it's running smooth again I'll tinker with the carburetor. Worse case senario I'll be out 2 bucks for the plug. I'll use the carb cleaner on the car someday. Thank you very much for your help. I will get back on here and update you tomorrow evening.

Re: club car carryall VI will idle but won't Rev
IF your going to get a plug... get some Seafoam carb/injector cleaner! (liquid, not spray)
I'll tell you why tomorrow! |

Got some seafoam already, not enough to soak the carb in though. That stuff works awesome though

Re: club car carryall VI will idle but won't Rev
I was planning to actually take the carb apart and make new gaskets assuming the old ones are shot and spray everything.. Just did that to the edelbrock in my car a month and a half ago except I bought a gasket kit. Done it numerous other times in one and two barrel's. I'll be happy to see what your trick is and try it though, always up for a new or better/easier way.. After this cart it's time to mess with the carburetor on his 48 ish Ford tractor. Needs to be tuned and oil change from the petcock being left open accidentally. That will be fun

Re: club car carryall VI will idle but won't Rev
The Seafoam is used to clean the carbon off of the piston, head and valves,
(sometimes a valve gets held open from excess carbon) Pour 3/4 oz. in the spark plug hole, install the plug without the plug wire connected, crank the engine over for about 5 seconds, and let it sit for about an hour or two, With the cart outside, or in a well ventilated area, connect the plug wire back up, and start it... it will run really rough, and smoke to beat h*ll for a few minutes, but It cleans the combustion chamber! BUT... you have to get the engine to start and run first! Confirm that you have a good spark by having the plug out of the head, connected to the plug wire, and holding the base of the plug to the head with an insulated pliers or channel locks! |

Re: club car carryall VI will idle but won't Rev
How did your day go?
New spark plug didn't help at all, I did double check spark to the plug though, still strong, didn't bother to check the plug for spark. (By any chance do you know what the gap is supposed to be at? I just did a visual of the old one and looked the same and dropped it in) and thank you for typing in the spark plug number last night since I forgot to write it down. I went ahead and took the carburetor apart and cleaned it, was nasty... At the moment I killed the battery messing with it so it's charging now I was wondering if it could be the valves sticking (shut mainly) since it should have spark and fuel and air and some compression. I will have to do that with the seafoam just in case it would help. Definatly won't hurt seafoam works wonders. May not make it run right now though |

The valves should be operational since there's plenty of air exiting the motor which means it's getting in.. Still good to clean it out though

Re: club car carryall VI will idle but won't Rev
It was a long day... but profitable!
I set my plug gap at .030 (Factory spec'd between .027 to .031) It's weird that you have spark and no fire... have you drained and replaced the old fuel in the gas tank yet? |

Re: club car carryall VI will idle but won't Rev
Thank you, will check the gap probley tomorrow after work since weather isn't great today. I agree it's weird, im also going to go back across the basics hoping I missed something stupid. I havnt checked the air filter yet either, doubtful if they like minimal air but it's possible it's packed with dirt on the outside of the filter since it always is off pavement. Mostly grass and minimal sandy dirt road to bring the trash to the curb. Set the gap a double check it's sparking just because. Visually see the fuel again going into the carburetor. Only thing I can think of is whatever starts the actual motor once throttle is depressed. Im not sure how but I'd imagine there is a mechanism that tells the motor to start as the motor is moving 'idle' still don't understand how it gets fuel and spark but won't run. Still learning how they operate, im thinking out loud at the moment, I'll leave the arguing to myself for now lol.
It should at the least run on starting fluid if it's fuel related, and has spark. But when you know you have spark it should just need fuel, maybe a vaccum leak somewhere. I know on cars the ones on intake manifold if they leak or missing the motor won't run. Can check for vacuum hoses if any. Dunno |
