What do I have here? Cart ID
Hello All
Golf cart newbie 1st post here. I have acquired a golf cart that was left out unused for several years. I know my cart is a Club Car DS. I believe it is a 1999 model. It has a FE 290 engine in it. It also appears to have a lift, but I don’t know size. It has 22” tires on 8” wheels. I have got the mechanical parts like I want them. The cart runs great! Now it’s time for upholstery, wheels and tires, and cosmetics and accessories. My questions are...What sort of body do I have? It appears to be made of fiberglass ( there is a small crack on the rear of cart so I can see what’s in there). I need to know so I can order some headlights to install before I paint. Also. Can I go with a 23” tire? It looks like I have the clearance Thanks in advance Bryan |

From here it looks like a 4" lift. Body looks like the stock plastic rear with a custom nose piece (not stock). Be careful when ordering your headlights because most headlight kits you will find will be made to fit the stock nose piece.
Post the serial number. It's up under the passenger glove box opening. |

Re: What do I have here? Cart ID
If you have a 6" lift you can run a 23" tire. But clearance looks tight up there on the front tire. If you only have a 4" lift, that larger tire is going to rub on the fender and frame when you're turning.

My cart is a 1996.
Tire size is 22x11.0-8 and I included a pic of the tire in the wheelwell. I also included a pic of the headlight so maybe someone can ID it. Thanks for the help Bryan |

Re: What do I have here? Cart ID
I can just barely see that your cart has a z-lift (the front frame rails right at the front suspension are cut and lowered, installing two brackets that look like a "Z"). Measure the the distance between the top of the main frame rail and the top of the front portion of the frame rail that was lowered and you'll have your lift height.
Your best bet for the lights is to just measure them and find a replacement online like eBay or something. Unless someone here knows who makes that front nose piece. |

Here's my build thread for my '90:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/membe...-club-car.html Had a 4" Z-lift on it when I got it. My 22" tires rubbed. But I just made longer brackets to push the wheels out towards the front a couple of inches (see post #45). |

I ordered a spartan body kit last year and love it. completely changed the look of the cart. Was it worth the money? That's debatable but it still looks good.

Re: What do I have here? Cart ID
I should start this project next week. I have finished my mud boat project and it’s time for something else!
I am doing this project for my wife and I. We can use it around the neighborhood and to take our grandson riding in the fields. 1. Since in am going to paint this body, I wonder if I can order some light kits and cut or fill to fit them. 2 the only structural problems I see are broken frame ends on the rear. I’ll get those tigged up Plans are to remove body, repair a few small places (it appears to be fiberglass- it has a crack on rear that lets me see), and paint. I’ll pressure wash the frame and brighten the aluminum and paint the running gear.. After that I’ll put the folding rear seat on after I paint it. Then mount a light bar and winch on the front. I may buy instead of fab the winch Mount/ bumper. Let the upholstery shop do some seats, and order some wheels and tires That should do it! Bryan |
