Bad input shaft bearing will definitely cause issues. You should be good once you get that replaced :)

Any good tips on how to install that bearing without a press? I've thought about putting the whole input shaft in the freezer for a while to see if I could get it to string down then trying to tap it into place, but ???? I have a 6" vice, but it doesn't seem big enough for this application.

So, got the transaxle taken apart and found that the bearing on the far end of the input shaft was shot and probably because one of the thrust washers had been destroyed at some point.

It appears that this unit has been opened up before and potentially assembled incorrectly. The bearing on the clutch end of the shaft wasn’t pressed in tight enough which allowed some wobble.

I’ve replaced all worn parts with OEM and the synchro sleeve seems to be moving back and forth smoothly with no slop now.

I ended up putting the whole shaft in the freezer and the bearing in my toaster oven on 180deg. After about 20 mins, the bearing slid right onto the shaft and it’s all tightened up now. Genius!
