1994 Drive Clutch Rebuild

I have 2 drive clutches for my 1994 Jacobsen 810 (same as EZGO GXT 804). I want to use both to make 1 good clutch. I have one apart that has a bad shaft, that someone used a pipe wrench on. The other has bad rollers.

The moveable sheave has a Bushing?, and Wiper? in the ID hole. The wiper is damaged from the pipe wrench gouges.

Can you buy replacement parts or is the wiper OK to use as is. Its going on the other clutch which I haven't taken apart yet (I made tooling to get the clutches apart)

If you plan to use the half of the shiny one in the first picture I think I’d just bite the bullet and buy a new clutch. Maybe it’s just the picture? But that sheave appears to have quite a bit of wear on it which will significantly degrade performance. Hold a ruler or straight edge up against that sheave. It should be perfectly flat. If it’s wavy at all, it’s worn. Especially the ezgo clutches they seem to take forever to wear; way longer than most other ones. If that’s showing wear it’s probably used up the majority of it’s serviceable life.

Only using the rollers and weights out of this one. Just trying to see if any one knew if parts are available somewhere. Very little info on these clutches on the web

As the clutches are critical for transmission speed and torque, i would plump for a new OEM or Chinese clone clutch (cheaper) and forget trying to rebuild what you have. The parts will be unobtainable and always have been for the drive clutch from Textron.

If the rest of the cart is in reasonable mechanical condition it is a no brainer!

I understand that buying a new clutch is probably the correct option, but not for me. My use of the cart is hauling stuff around the yard and driving 1/2 mile across the street to have a beer with my friend.
Being retired I have a lot of time not money. I spent 3 days building 2 tools to take the spider off the clutch.
The “good” clutch” was working fine for me (15 mph top speed) but had a flat spot on 1 roller. I found a set of rollers on line for $50 but have good rollers on the bad clutch
I’ve had this cart for over 20 years and done all the repairs myself.

Fair enough. I tend to do the same, more by choice than finances, but as i said, the OEM stock drive clutch has never been an item that you could source parts for as far as i know. None of the parts listings i have shows a breakdown or part numbers. a few parts for the driven clutch are listed, but only complete drive clutches. Looks like you gotta do it your way after all and make one good out of two bad LOL. The bush you mention can probably be matched up at a bearing supplier but i cannot recall what the "wiper" looks like or what it is made of. I think it is basically a dust seal, and if your bush has any play then a new "wiper" would probably not last long either. If you are only doing short trips, I think i would just refit the old one unless the other clutch has a better one. I wish you good luck and hope you can get some success.

That clutch is very spendy. I am not happy with my Chinese clutch, looking to go back to stock if I can find a used one.
